Not exactly close-in, but the Santa Ysabel Resort and Casino near Julian, California recently opened its first phase to the public with a picturesque mountain setting and breathtaking views.

Leaders of the 700 member tribe hope the scenic beauty of the remote casino will help attract visitors to the $27 million, 35,000-square-foot facility.

The facility, designed to resemble a mountain lodge, has a 150-seat buffet restaurant, pool tables, multiple fireplaces with leather chairs and brewery-style bar.

The bar will be dry until the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control issues an alcohol license pending casino entrance improvements on Highway 79.

It's my understanding the next phase, currently under construction, will be the hotel followed by a golf course to set the "Resort" in play.

What the little casino lacks in the start up phase is more than made up for in hospitality.  Constant offers of beverage and barrage of welcomes is the theme.  Most of the machines offer your choice of denomination for play thereby allowing something for everyone.  FUN!

Nice intimate place to play if you're tired of getting lost in the shuffle.  We wish this latest casino opening the best of luck and all of you who visit.
